Welcome to the Membership Information section of the Lambda Chi Alpha Homepage. Chances are that if you've found this page you may have some questions. Hopefully we've included all the answers, but feel free to email us if we have not.

As many freshmen, or even transfers, first come to Union they have little to no idea what a fraternity is about. Lambda Chi Alpha in short is about one word: BROTHERHOOD. In case that doesn't tell you all you need to know, a few links are provided below to tell you more about our fraternity.

It is important to note that when considering any Fraternity, you need to know what it is that they stand for. Always give each Fraternity at your University or College a full lookover and be open-minded. Make sure they answer all the questions you have. If a Fraternity is unwilling to answer your questions, take that as a warning sign. Lambda Chi Alpha has quite an open policy about the things that we stand for. When recruiting new members, called associates, we want individuals who can benefit from membership, as well as benefit the Fraternity by their membership. Fraternity is a two way street and you can only get out of it what you put into it. With these things in mind, you may wish to learn more about our Fraternity. Check out our informational page which answers the question: What is LCA.

Once you've learned more about what our fraternity is about, you might wonder if you can be at home in our membership. It is important that you be sure that whatever fraternity you decide to join, you must be happy there. You must find a group of brothers who will give you the same sympathy and encouragement in your struggle for true success as is tendered by one physical brother to another. You must find a place where you can contribute to the group as well as have the group contribute to you. In short, the question here is Why Join LCA.

An important point to take notice of is that unlike many organizations you never cease to be a Lambda Chi. You may hear alumni of other organizations proudly state that they "were" a so-and-so from their college or university. The difference with our brothers is that you will always hear them state that they "are" Lambda Chi's, regardless of their age or station in life. Keeping this in mind, it is crucial that you note the Ideals, Mottoes & Obligations since these are the virtues you would be responsible to uphold for a lifetime.

Another question you must ask yourself is concerns the role you wish to play in a fraternity. How limited of a capacity do you wish to function in your organization. There are two basic systems of membership that you typically find in greek organization. The first is the pledge system and is the more common. The second is the associate membership system. It is important for you to determine the pro's/con's of these systems so check out the Associate System Vs. the Pledge System.

Not only does each greek organization use their own type of membership program, each college and university oftentimes uses their own "rush" program. Rush is the process by which you are oriented and may or may not decide to join a fraternity. Because there are different numbers of fraternities on different size campuses the rules may vary from institution to institutution. To familarize yourself with the particular program here at Union please view our Rush at Union Page.

Because the future of any organization depends heavily upon future generations it is important that any chapter of any fraternity devote much time to recruitment. One of our officers, known as the High Delta, or Rush Chairman, has been specifically dedicated to this task. Although it is the responsibility and obligation of every member of Lambda Chi Alpha to replace themself, the direct liaison between prospective members and the chapter. In accordance with this, our Rush Chairman Michael Norton has provided a Letter to those interested in joining a greek organization.

If you would like to receive more information, or are interested in joining, feel free to visit the Infomation Request Page and fill out the form. You will soon receive more details about our chapter and how to become a member.
